The First Noel on Octave Mandolin

I play an octave mandolin to my album version of the classic Christmas song "The First Noel".

Ever since I was little I had an obsession with Christmas. I would take out Christmas books from my elementary school library in May and I would hum Christmas tunes all year round. I guess that hasn’t changed.

When I started to get moderately proficient at guitar, I would try to replicate the Christmas tunes in my head on guitar. Over the years I’ve come up with instrumental arrangements for many classical Christmas songs.

This year I decided to finally put some of them to record. I turned my spare bedroom in my apartment into a makeshift recording studio and spent a good part of the first half of this year writing, recording and re-recording instrumental versions of some of my favourite Christmas tunes.
What I initially envisioned as simple “one acoustic guitar” versions of these songs ended up becoming more elaborate arrangements with many different stringed instruments (mandolin, octave mandolin, ukulele, electric guitar and bass) and percussions.
