I'm 35. I've had this going on for over a decade in both joints. In 2012, the foot doctor said I had feet of a 40 year old triathlon runner. Long story short. Don't leave it. I'm going in to see what I can do about it now. This video is very helpful. Thank you!

Using insole for how long and how can you exercise again with or without insole? . the insole is only used on the bad foot? I'm using one, the pain dissapear, but my back hurts a lot, It is difficult to walk and I get tired very quickly. It is possible over time to exercise without a template? I am very grateful for your valuable support.

I got mine over many years of overuse, though my surgeon said it can be genetic. Sure enough, my sister, brothers and my mother have it also. I have it in both feet. I first noticed the pain in my early 20s. In my late 30s I started to complain to my doctor. He said go as long as you can before getting surgery. One dr. suggested having it fused, another said no way, it will screw up my gait. Well, having been in the Army, they train you to go forever. Finally in my early 50s I couldn’t take it anymore.I had cheilectomy done one foot at a time. Got great relief, but the one toe never got as much ROM back as the other one. That one is almost fused now, and a little painful. I’m wondering if I should have the surgery again. I’m glad I had it done 10 years ago, but the recovery was a beast.

thank you for all these videos about big toe joint issues... I think I have stage 3 turf toe )and probably those little bones are now very big bones too), as at times I would really like to just cut off my toe! but one thing you haven't mentioned that I am sure aggravated my long standing condition is wearing sandals, slides. clogs, flip flops over the years WITHOUT BACKS. So to hold the shoe on my foot i was always flexing, clenching my big toe. This probably did not cause the problem but it definitely aggravates it. Now at 56 I can only wear shoes with backs and I have to tape my toe pretty much every day and all my athletic shoes have carbon fiber soles. Golf is another killer sport for the left big toe even with stiff golf shoes. I think you should talk more about proper footwear besides athletic shoes. I was never a big high heel wearer as that would be an obvious problem but these flat shoes are no good too! Again thank you for all your great information!

Are the end suggestions such as stretching, shoes implants, etc. Helpful only in relieving pain? Is ny understanding correct that if you have hallux limitus, the only way to get mobility back is through surgery? I love working out but haven't been able to properly lunge or do any movements that require 90 degree bending of the toes, so I'm wondering, is surgery the only way to get thay mobility back? Or is it never possible to get the mobility back, even with surgery?

This is one of the best videos I’ve seen on YouTube that addresses my stiff toe joint issue. I experienced a lot of pain today and couldn’t figure out why - I then remembered I started jump roping again after a long hiatus, and my calves are really tight! Thanks for the recommendations, I will give them a try.

The information in your video is super helpful! I’ve recently had toe fusion surgery after many years of dealing with toe issues. Going through the process of running and getting movement again. The carbon fibre insert wasn’t helpful post surgery for me, at least at that point but trying an orthotic now and seeing improvement. Has been such a long process for my scenario. Again, Thank you for providing such excellent information.

Should I put the carbon fiber insert in the slipper? The slippers on your guide don't look specific for Hallux. Thanks!

I have a big, hard bone spur on my right toe joint, that prevents me from bending my toe or wearing heels. I have no pain really when I just wear flats. Only when I wear heels. So how do I TOTALLY heal or correct the problem such that I can go back to wearing whatever shoes I want to? How do I get rid of the bone spur and the stiffness without surgery! ☺️

Hello. This was awesome info! I have a quick question. I'm an overpronator and I'm having some success with a carbon insert and a neutral shoe with a roomy toe box. However, as an overpronator, my go to show has always been a brooks stability shoe. Is it ok to combine the two or does that "over correct" the problem?

Is it possible to develop this very fast? As in going from having slight discomfort needing to pop the toe every few weeks with sometimes a little pain….

To almost being unable to walk, throbbing pain, very little range of motion w joint and toe, and redness on side of joint and top within 24 hours?

I don’t think I have a break because there isn’t any bruising unless it’s a hairline fracture.

I don’t want orthotics. I’m wearing minimalist “barefoot” shoes with toe spacers. My feet are getting stronger. But what exercises can I do to keep that big toe out and not falling inward? The spacer helps but exercises will strengthen the whole toe area.
