Morph's ability to shape shift allowed him to gain the physical abilities of CERTAIN mutants, like Angel's ability to fly or superstrength (at least to some extent anyway). Quite a useful skill set.

The fact that cyclops just took a beating instead of opening his eyes and put others in danger actually goes to show why he is the leade of the X-men.

EDIT: also, yall should think about what it’s like going into a fight with your eyes closed. How effing brave and disciplined do you have to be to let a guy smash you or curb stomp you while you keep your eyes closed? You can’t see the hit coming so you can’t tense up or roll with it, and you know he could easily stomp your groin, liver, or any other vitals that could really eff you up, but all you think is “nope, what if I accidentally hurt others?”
