Classic TV Theme: Beauty and the Beast (Stereo +Bonus!)

This bittersweet romance (1987) between a professional woman and the 'beast' from an underground city who saved her life attracted a fervent fan following. The swelling music courtesy of Lee Holdridge, the stylish photography, and the chemistry between the leads made the show something special. But near the end of season two attempts were made to juice up the 'action' and as the storyline imperiled Linda Hamilton's character, she was ready to leave the show due to her pregnancy. The third season lost the key relationship that kept viewers tuning in, and it spelled the end for the show. Lee Holdridge's theme is one of his most romantic ever. Two opening titles included (reflecting cast changes a new arrangement of the theme), plus the end credits.
Bonus: The CW got their hands on this one and of course in their version the music (Mark Isham) is grim and menacing. Just an opening title card (as is the current custom) plus closing credits.

I have watched this show off and on since I found it in 1990 in repeats on the family channel. I had the first season on legal vhs then in 2007 to 2008 I got all 3 seasons on DVD. Then on 12/28/2021 - 1/1/2024 the show was on START TV at 4A.M.

Channel 5 in the UK reran it in the mid 1990's - helped by the fact they had access to the Spelling library (Spelling Entertainment acquired Republic Pictures, makers of the show) because of the acquisition of Sunset Beach.

Can you imagine, one NYC manhole takes you to ninja turtles, another to Vincent. There's a lesson in that for all of us.

Do you have Trial and Error (1988 TV sitcom)?

Having the CW version's theme follow the original's is like going from Ariana Grande to Yoko Ono.#i suspect only Seth MacFarlane wouldn't be afraid of themes like Holdridge's today.

The remake was pathetic - they forgot all the lessons learned during the first series, and they didn't even TRY to make the "Beast" look right. And I was never impressed with Kristen Kreuk anyway.
