Tom Hanks chatted with Ellen about portraying Mister Rogers in "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood," and how the people in the beloved TV star's hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania take Mister Rogers very seriously.

I’m so glad this movie is being made. I moved to the US from Thailand, and grew up watching Mr. Rogers, I learned a lot of my English from him, loved the way he talked slowly and annunciated all his words. I was extremely heartbroken when I found out he passed. Such a kind man. Make him proud Tom!!!!

As a Yinzer, I couldn't think of anybody more prestigious & honorable, yet humble & kind, than Tom Hanks to play our beloved Mr. Rogers. My sister worked for the catering company at Mr. Rogers' daughter's wedding, & she said he was every bit the amazing man you'd want him to be when she got the chance to meet him there in person. Pittsburgh legend!
