Therian here, the actual definition is someone who non-physically identifies as an animal. (Quadrobics are not required and you can do quads without being a therian) ❤

Hi! I'm from the therian-otherlin community and you are totally correct! More or less we feel like we were animals in our past lives and are still spiritually connected!

I’m a therian! A therian is someone who identifies non-physically as an animal and experiences involuntary animalistic behaviors! So it’s not a choice. And not all therians do quadrobics. If you look anywhere else besides TikTok, you won’t really find many therians doing quadrobics. Quadrobics is just a TikTok trend for therians to do and some therians use it to connect to their animal side, but it’s not required. Some people even do quadrobics who aren’t a therian just because it’s fun.

Otherkin is very similar to therian except that they identify as any being, not just earthly animals. So like, dragons, elves, werewolves, angels, even fictional characters. Otherkin is an umbrella term, so therians are technically otherkin, but some chose not to use that label.

And I’ll just mention alterhuman too in case anyone’s wondering. Idk a lot about it but I’m pretty sure it’s just a synonym for otherkin, but maybe even more of an umbrella term? Like, someone who’s alterhuman can be in ANY way not totally human.

What you said is a “special connection to animals” is actually otherhearted, not therian. Otherhearted people are those who connect to a being but don’t identify as it. So like, instead of identifying _as_ that being, they identify _with_ it. For example, someone who feels a strong connection to fish but doesn’t identify as one would be fishhearted. Well, I don't think I'm a fox, I just think I'm fox-like. I have a special connection to foxes, and they've always held a special place in my heart. So that my Fursona is a fox, is in no way a coincidence, but do I think I'm a fox? No.

"Furry" is just a name for people of a specific fandom, like "Potterheads" the Harry Potter fans or "FanWings" the Wings Of Fire fans. Just a name for a fandom of people who like anthropomorphic animals!

Therians are people who INVOLUNTARILY experience animalistic behavior and identity as the animal they experience being (their theriotype)

Therians do indeed have a “strange” and special connection to animals, but not all of us do quadrobics. As a therian myself, i know that i struggle with doing quads because of my ridiculously long legs, but crippled people or amputees can be therians too. Actually, almost no therians think their animals, they just have a very strong connection with their theriotypes.
