A few things.
1 - The Mentats had absolutely nothing to do with humanity's ability to travel the stars. The Mentats were basically the replacement for personal computers. They were used primarily for storage and analysis of large swaths of data and through that analysis as advisors to important people or houses. Space travel was accomplished through a combination of a Holtzman drive that folded space and Guild Navigators specialized form of prescience that let them "see" the destination and provide safe travel.

2 - Prescience is not being able to predict people's movements based on close observation, that is the Bene Geserit art of Prana Bindu. Neither the BG sisterhood or the Mentats have prescience. They do each have their own seperate powers of observation and computation that make them important. Remember, the presence of a Guild Navigator was required to block Leto II's prescient visions of the group plotting to kill him. Guild Navigators are the only ones out of them, the Bene Geserit and the Mentats who have any form of prescience.

My apologies if I misunderstood your statements or intent but it seems like there is a bit of a lack of understanding of the source material.

Thank you for explaining this. I haven't read the books yet but may do so in the future

Mentats are student taught method of data collection and retrieval, originally created by Erasmus through Gilbertus Albans.

The show runners want us to think the eyes are AI, with the blue light and clearly machine-like vocalizations. The vision in Desmonds eye during the Landraad scene started with the worm, but ended with the eyes. Desmond is an unwitting agent of some AI or AI wielding power, maybe the Tleilaxu.

Why would a vision seen be “out of focus” eyes when it was just one light? This can only happen when two eyes mis-process what they see. And only Desmond actually saw this, so why are they seeing his vision?

I'm not convinced that the main "innovation" (true Dunatics would say "heresy" 😉) introduced by the "Brian books" is where the showrunners are taking this series - but I admire and enjoy their studied ambiguity about it.

The threat of thinking machines in Frank Herbert's books is entirely in the future of the world he described, not in the past (i.e. as described in the "Brian books").

And, as you point out, there are NO true "prophesies" in Dune, just fake ones. What there is - prescience - allows a highly challenging and often misleading version of the future that only the God Emperor can master (or so he believes and we are ourselves led to believe by the book).

So: one quite plausible theory is that Mother Raquella's vision at the very start is a properly prescient one that (imperfectly) sees a clear future threat to human survival from thinking machines - i.e. a threat seen more clearly (but much later) by Paul and his son, sowing the seeds of their eventual multigenerational Greek tragedy.

But the characters in the TV adaptation (and most of its viewers, being new to the world of Dune) are primed to think that the threat is MUCH more imminent and comes from some "stray" completely independent post-Jihad thinking machines (the ones described only in the "Brian books") rather than from the other humans who control them (as per the "Frank book canon").

With regard to your quote from "God Emperor" about the Ixians no longer having the power to bring "arafel", we have yet to meet the proto-Ixians themselves (just one on their "retailers" on Salusa Secundus) and maybe we never will, but I suspect we will hear a lot more about them in S02, especially since the next Villeneuve film may well feature some of their handiworks (think "eyes") as well as those of the Tleilaxu...

(I'm convinced the business types at Legendary Pictures see the TV series as playing second fiddle to the film franchise and are likely to let the next film dictate how much longer the TV series has to maintain ambiguity on this point.)

Bro _ Thank you so much for that breakdown. God Emperor was such a snooze fest I dropped off. What I fear for Dune Prophecy is that it is relying upon so much deep fan service that it is loosing the crowd. As a hardcore fan, how do you think this series is doing ?

Well done. I think people get too concearned with Omnius and Erasmus. Agamenom is the one who starts the Breeding program in my opinion. It s his eyes we see. He is the place The sisterhood dares not look. A titan stares back at them.
