The thing I'd strongly recommend bearing in mind is that the rules of the magic are really complex and can get overwhelming, however when it pays off (especially in the second book) it REALLY pays off.

Just in addition to the mentioned gay relationship that may-or-may-not turn into anything in the sequels, I want to point out that the main character himself is asexual. That was the selling point for me, since asexual characters are so rare in fantasy, and as an asexual person myself, I found his feelings on the matter very relatable.
One thing: There is a LOT of infodumping happening in this book, so as much as I love it, I'm not sure I'd have the attention span to actually read it. Luckily, the audiobook narrator is absolutely amazing, so I just kinda... let myself zone out a bit during those parts.

watched 5 seconds of this and was done, you convinced me to listen to it, I doubt you have spoilers but I'll watch the rest after I'm done the book. I love weak to strong stories with magic, this is my next one. if you have another video that specifically deals with stories about main characters that are weak to start and then become strong I'll listen to whatever one you say unless I have read them already. My only complaint in this book is a single sub plot which feels incredibly shoehorned in. However, one complaint in a book of this length.... that's not bad at all. I love the characters. I love the world. Fantastic book.

This book sounds like it's just up my alley. It kind of reminds of the test for the ring and the shawl in the White Tower (WoT)... and WoT and Harry Potter are my two all time favorites at the moment. I love differing classes of abilities, so the attunements sound fantastic. This just made it onto my high priority list.

Legit respect you more for the books behind you than the review (not that it is bad in any way), probably cause of Bookinship, but also because you have not 1, but 2 copies of my fav book ever, Arcanum Unbounded.

I’ve been looking at this for a while but I’ve been put off by the gamey elements. I think I’ll give it a second look :). I do like magic systems where anyone can learn magic rather then the typical “genetic” magic (where you have to be born with magic) that you see in most fantasy.

Litrpg has been my *grabby hands* book genera for the past 2 years or so and have yet to find what I've been looking for in the genera (though a book I read last year was close). This one I need to check out now. It's not what I have been looking for but it sounds better then what I have been looking for.
