Villains may be the “cool” way to characterize this team but it’s a misnomer. There’s nothing villainous about the heart shown on the field this season. If anything, this team was written out of the Super Bowl conversation months ago. They find themselves where they are—about to contend for the third title of the modern era—not because they’re villains. Overcoming early struggles and rebuilding the strength and identity of a once-critically-discarded team, makes them heroes. Leave the role of the defeated villains to the Ravens, the Bengals, the Bills—whoever came looking for the Chiefs and whose 2023 endeavors are now breeze-borne dust.
