Hi Ecohemp,

With the Green Deal there's no upfront cost when you install energy efficient improvements; you pay for them gradually through your electricity bills. The Golden Rule means that, in theory, repayments on the loan should not exceed the amount you save on your energy bills. Any difference between the amount you save and the amount you repay would be your savings. Come over to Which? and have a look at our Green Deal loans reviewed guide for more info.

cheers, Sarah

If we are talking total commitment to green in this deal and it has to include everything to be any sort of a commitment, to be a green deal means no hydrocarbons. Well, wiring insulation, carpet, plumbing, veneers, wall papers, paints, vinyls, coatings, most all artificial products are hydrocarbon based which are products of refining oil. Even home insulation is at the least, coated with a hydrocarbon and spray expanding foam is a hydrocarbon. Low e coatings are also hydrocarbon so none of that. Since oil is the enemy, you can't live in an environment surrounded by enemy made products and be committed to your green deal. You would be a complete hypocrite.

Besides that, solar panels are made of plastic and wired together with wiring that has plastic insulation. You can't have solar panels or wiring either. Most plumbing including the water mains and water lines are pvc so no water either without some new, not yet developed natural plumbing products. You can go drink out of the creek. All electronics are loaded with hydrocarbon based materials like circuit boards, microchips, insulated wiring, coatings, plastic and paint so no computers, no electronics of any kind, no cell phones. I mean, we are going green here right? If we are going to do it, we have to do it all to have a complete green deal. You don't get to pick and choose what hydrocarbons you keep and what you don't keep. Green means eliminate all hydrocarbons.
