Track 6 from their fifth album “Draw the Line” released in 1977 copyright Columbia Records. The success of their last two albums had catapulted the band to stardom and they readily embraced an excessive rock star lifestyle. In an effort to isolate them from drugs and other influences, and in the height of irony, the sessions were recorded at an abandoned convent near New York City. However, the drugs flowed freely in the three-hundred room complex. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry would later become known as “The Toxic Twins” for their rampant heroin addictions and were largely disinterested in the writing and recording process. This resulted in delays and uninspired material. The rest of the band and producer Jack Douglas stepped up and contributed half of the songs on the album. Reviews at the time were disappointing but the album has gained more respect over time. The album achieved Platinum status within a month of its release and was awarded 2X Platinum in 1996. It reached No. 10 in Canada and No. 11 on the Billboard chart. Written by Steven Tyler, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer & Jack Douglas and produced by Jack Douglas, Aerosmith, David Krebs & Steve Leber. Featuring:

Steven Tyler – Lead vocals, harmonica & background vocals, piano on “Kings and Queens”
Joe Perry – Slide, lead & rhythm guitars & background vocals, lead vocal on “Bright Light Fright”
Brad Whitford – Lead & rhythm guitars
Tom Hamilton – Bass
Joey Kramer – Drums & percussion
Special guests:
Stan Bronstein – Sax on “I Wanna Know Why” & “Bright Light Fright”
Scott Cushnie – Piano on “I Wanna Know Why” & “Critical Mass”
Karen Lawrence – Background vocals on “Get It Up”
Jack Douglas – Mandolin on “Kings and Queens”
Paul Prestopino – Acoustic & banjo guitars on “Kings and Queens”

Long ago in days untold ruled by Lords of greed
Maidens fair, with gold they dared to bare their wombs that bleed
Kings and Queens and guillotines takin' lives denied
Starch and parchment laid the laws when bishops took the ride
Only to deceive

Oh, I know I lived this life before
Somehow I know now truths I must be sure
Tossin' turnin', (nightmares burnin', dreams of swords in hand)
Sailin' ships, the viking spits the blood of father's land
Only to deceive

Livin' times of knights and mares raisin' swords for maidens fair
Sneer at death, fear only loss of pride
(Living other centuries, deja-vu or what you please)
(Follows true to all who do or die)

(Screams of no reply)
They died
(Screams of no reply)
And died
Lordy, Lordy, they died
Lord, Lordy, they died

Live and do or die (long ago in days untold when knights are chosen, days untold)
Lord they died (kings and queens and guillotines and guillotines and guillotines)
Live and no reply (long ago in days untold when knights are chosen, days untold)
They died (long ago in days untold when knights are chosen, days untold)
(Kings and Queens and guillotines and guillotines and Kings and Queens)
(Kings and Queens and guillotines and guillotines and guillotines)

One of my all time favorites from them. Gotta love "Live: Bootleg" the extended solo in "lord of the thighs" is fucking epic. Saw them in 79 you can watch it here on YouTube, search Day on the green in Oakland CA. It's epic and worth checking out ..
