#ORCHID #ORCHIDSFORDUMMIES #missorchidgirl

Hello PhalPals, this video is for Orchid beginners like me. I know you are excited to be a Orchid grower and want to prepare for what’s ahead. The purpose of this video is to warn you that it’s addictive to want to purchase what you see successful Orchid growers use. But as they always say; this is according to my living conditions. That means it’s not necessary best for you. #MissOrchidGirl has been endorsed by #Repotme and that’s terrific but in my opinion #Missorchidgirl we sell us anything to make a profit. Case in point, why isn’t she reviewing their competition? My advice would be keep it simple by using what is available to you first. Use what’s convenient for you, the most crucial items your Orchid will need are your everyday household products. #REPOTME if you would like to sponsor someone that the people trust, that would be the people’s channel. I have already reviewed their product and I gave my honest opinion without amplifying the truth. We work hard for our money and don’t want to be hoodwinked in such a loving and caring community.

Different types for Different areas and people, all so different Large Bag rexious fir bark, that comes up to my waist $30 Some areas could add small amount of quality moss. Otherwise a lot of variety media is good if water runs freely through on watering day You could use a little moss and I would not be sad, and it is a bit of a crutch as any media change will be hard on roots. With spring coming the longer days and warmer, will help encourage roots Yea :0)

It really does depend on what area you live in, weather conditions, climate and how you are growing your orchids...different results/ strokes for different folks. Many times in the beginning we go through quite a trial and error process before we learn what type of orchids grow best for us, what types of orchids don't do so well in our care or won't grow for us at all and what types of media works best for the orchids specific needs. One size doesn't fit all when it comes to orchids...Here in Florida and growing my orchids outdoors, sphagnum moss is the worst for my orchids...I've lost several because of the heavy rain season. The worst orchid for me to grow in my environment outdoors are phals and paphiopedilum. I've lost several attempting to grow them in my garden. I have some orchids growing in rock, fewer growing in a mix of bark media and fewest growing in a terrestrial mix. The majority of my orchids are bare rooted or mounted to avoid black rot and other rotting infections. In my type of conditions that is a must because fungal infection have been one of the worst threats to my orchids in my garden atmosphere. It's taken many out and sent them on a direct flight to Orchid Heaven (may they RIP). So the best media for majority of my orchids...is no media at all...LOL! What I have learned is that orchids are a constant learning adventure and we never stop learning about them and we have to figure out the formula that works best for us...and just do you! HAPPY GROWING Durell and hoping all is well.

Good video! You make me laugh. I use Better Gro Orchid mix for my large Den Phals but then Orchiata Bark for the others. I live in the SoCal desert so I was adding bits of moss with bark but recently changed them back to all bark because they were staying too wet. It’s a learning experience to find what’s right for your environment. I’m with you as far as YouTubers and company endorsements. Can’t always be trusted when money is involved! And I like YouTubers who are real!

Best media is whatever works for you! Sometimes, no media at all!!! I remember a very old video from Rick when he said you can grow orchids in Lego if you want!!! Of course, he is an expert in hydroponics, so he understands plant nutrition and such. I use different media for different plants, as yes sometimes no media at all for some. Have to say though, none are growing in Lego yet LOL! Should I try it one day??? Happy growing my friend.

This video made me laugh! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this media. I currently have my 2 orchid babies in a water culture. Was wondering if you had knowledge on this or could do a video on water culture? Thanks!

In Florida moss is tragic, too much humidity so it stays too wet. The majority of mine are in lava rock and are doing exceptional well.
Also there is a big difference in bark. The better grow bark breaks down and gets acidic quicker. You have to repot more often. The better quality bark that repotme sells lasts much longer. No need to repot for up to 3 years. But again the lava rock lasts forever and doesn’t turn acidic. No need to repot and disturb roots until the orchid is crawling out of the pot. Even then you don’t necessarily have to disturb the roots, just tap on the old pot until it breaks and put in new pot. But like Todd said every environment is different.
I don’t do Dani either. Her videos are way too long because she repeats herself over and over again. Also she does not take any constructive criticism she’s always on the defensive. Unteachable. I don’t like that character trait.
