What is Higgs energy, and how much of it is there in the universe? Learn how physics can get a bit wonky when it comes to vacuum decay! @pbsspacetime host Matt O’Dowd answers this question with the help of astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and comedian Eugene Mirman.

How is there not just a link in the description for me to hear the rest of this though?! There have been so many of these that I would click through and listen to if I could figure out where!

I personally don't think vacuum decay is realistic, because the higgs field is where it is, and has been for the last 13 billion years. In all that time, if something was going to trigger vacuum decay, it would have.

This is like watching a woman getting undressed, and then stopping just when she's going to drop the bra..

I don't think things would lose mass. The true vacuum, if it is there, is at higher Higgs values - closer to the Planck scale. So particles would become much much heavier.

Until we know for a fact that the Universe will not die, none of our lives mean anything.

What was the point of that?
That sucked, it went no where and they said nothing.
Neil made a weak joke and you stopped it there?
We already pay for internet access and as such there are countless places we can go to learn, or listen to weak jokes, if that is what people are after. There was no chemistry between the hosts in this, it was a piss poor advertisement for a service few people are going to bother paying for when they can get better information and better jokes without paying for anything on top of our already over priced internet services.

Do you love astronomy, or money, more?
