Skydive AFF stage 5 - Fail

My nerves where high this jump and it really showed in my rushed, frantick and poor performance. It is likley the cause of my instabillaty at deployment.
At 5,000ft AGL I move back from the instructor and turn 90 degree's ready to deploy. At 1:37 in the video I then lose control for a terrifying 12 seconds before finaley getting my chute out at 3000ft AGL. I managed to return to the DZ with little trouble. My instructor however was forced to land in the middle of the horse track, hence his upset words at the end of the video.

I'll never forget my first skydive!
That wind is enough to blow you to the next country !!!!
Can hardly reach back and pull !

It's all about relaxing and arch. You did ok but look tense. Breathe... Relax. And at pull time "arch, reach, look, throw,
Solid work though... Remember you're still better than the 99% of people who never jump out of a plane.

I honestly think skydiving instructor have a very stressful job.

Relax, its the hardest thing to teach. I mean, you are jumping out a plane and are expected to chill???

But you pulled, and both of you are safe to try this again. Silver

Can I just say that looks like a really scary place for a DZ. Its just trees and water for miles.

As long as you paid your beer fine, apologized to your instructor, and learnt from it then good on ya mate!

Before you start your Aff, get yourself an Alti and spend 10 minutes a day (for at least a few weeks) sitting on the lounge and every 10 seconds turning your wrist to see where you're at. Sounds boring but it trains the brain.

That should say "arch, reach, LOCATE, throw". Autocorrect bit me again.

60 Seconds of free fall from 10, 000 :-(

Unfortunately not. Hence his swearing. The landing area is that small rectangular patch of grass to the east (coast side) of the runway. He ended up landing in the middle of the horse track. The big round green patch of grass you see. Thankfully everyone was okay, and it was a quick little drive in the van to pick him up.

Did my AFF with these guys pretty recently. Absolute professionals, and it's a real beautiful DZ as well. If the instructors in this one are who I think they are, they're both 4000+ jumpers by now.

I remember having a tough time stopping the turns I was required to do, but then I figured out that dropping my opposite should just a hair, stopped me from turning on a dime!

Looks like someone’s up for a carton of beer

That wasn’t that bad. As an AFF instructor I’ve had a lot worse level 5s.

That looked like the start of a nasty line twist

I failed AFF 5 more badly than that. I got in a flat spin the instructor stopped. It was a learning experience.
