Once you have DTMF turned on in the menu, press the # key to enter DTMF typing. It transmits on whatever band you have selected.

new to radios. will i be able to talk to coast gurd on ch16. i am looking for a basic radio in case of emergencies for when i am fishing and boating, i am in San Francisco CA area. if i stall out in the bay need to be able to get help, USCG is less then 5 miles from where i usually go. if you have a better product or ideas, PLEASE tell me. How do you make these radios work long range? I am dead confused and getting really frustrated on how to get these radios to work. I can only get less than a quarter of a mile range on these radios and I'm getting upset on how these radios should work. I have been googling everything and there are no sources. It's really pissing me off. PLEASE HELP!!

You must designate a radio as #1 and the other as #2 through the ANI menu.
