I think there's a throwing axe designed to bounce randomly for a similar purpose, would be hell to combine the 2

The problem is that boomerangs need some preparation to do the movement correctly, If the Wind is not coming from a specific sode Then It won't work and It doesn't always Goes where they are supposed to...

I want sling combat back with stones carved to make sounds. imagine you can carve a stone like those aztec screaming flutes and the enemies hear pained screams while you chuck rocks at them

Only thing in my head is both sides using boomerangs, throwing them to hit each other and both sides perfectly catch all of them and they just swap boomerangs back and forth

Considering the production costs of these guys, if your were going to build them in large numbers you made as well just make javelins that can either kill or make the enemy ditch their shield (by getting stuck in it and making it really heavy) pretty reliably with limited training.
Slings being your ideal budget option, the slings being pretty cheap to make and ammo can literally be picked up off the ground. The projectiles could also reach some pretty astounding speeds essentially making it ignore armour depending on the distance. The only issue being training.

As an Australian, it's amazing to learn about all of the different types and uses of Aboriginal boomerangs, as well as the plethora of other hunting and warfare instruments that aren't as well known

I can't just imaging the first attempt of a group of soldiers trying this and getting hit in the face with boomerangs they threw cause half of them missed.

So what I'm hearing here is that Captain Boomerang could actually be a viable threat in real life?

The returning boomerang was essentially a toy. The hunting one wasn't able to return but hit hard

One time I found a boomerang at work and when I threw it, it didn't come back 😂☹

He's saying it would hit from unpredictable angles . Not that it would return to sender. I'm only curious with the force it returns with. will be strong enough to at least distract?

As I understand it indigenous Australians didn't use returning boomerangs for anything larger than small birds, as they wouldn't return after hitting anything bigger, and they didn't use them for warfare.

Some groups did fashion non returning boomerangs that were much larger but again, these were primarily still for hunting afaik.

Hmmm
I don't think it would work as well as you make it out to. I'm pretty sure for the boomerang to return nicely you need to throw in a specific direction relative to the wind.
