In this video, I demonstrate Open Throat Singing Technique on a few of Ronnie James Dio's songs. Ronnie was one of Rock's most powerful voices.

It's no secret that Ronnie James Dio is one of the greatest rock/metal vocalists of all time.

In fact, his sound is so difficult to emulate, almost no one does, because they can't.

And it's for that reason I decided to take it on :-)

What many people don't realize is the amount of power, range, stamina, hyper glottal compression/controlled distortion Ronnie used consistently.

And while Ronnie claims to have never taken a vocal lesson, and that may be true, he certainly figured out open throat technique and glottal compression.

I know he has been quoted many times about how his family would play Mario Lanza and he would try to emulate Mario almost on a daily basis (Bel Canto).

Ronnie also discussed his incredible lung capacity that he attributes to playing the trumpet in his youth.

But whatever it is, there's only one Ronnie James Dio and I'm here to demonstrate this technique for you.

Holy cow!! Dude that was insane!! You kept that lower end vibe Dio has that a lot of singers do covera much higher sounding and although the sing the notes they don't really capture Dio's timbre. Great work!

I used to think Dio's vocals are not as difficult as those of Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson. But after listening to this, I realized how effortlessly Dio could sing those songs and made us think that his songs are easier to sing than those of Rob and Bruce

I think you sound better than Ronnie James Dio because of your use of open throat technique. Open throat technique makes such a difference when you are singing. Since watching your videos, I have noticed that I am paying more attention to breathing, when to take the breath, how to shape vowels, etc. I have become a much better singer because of your help.
