such a smart cast who respects their character’s experiences and taking every detail they interpret from the writings into consideration

the Seagull was the first play in the history of the theater dealing With the ordinary people and Their ordinary feelings. There are no Heroes nor Big tradegies.
just everyday people With Their High and lows. at the same time it's a play about a search and somtimes calling for a higher meaning. - quite human. like the author
that's why it was boohed out at the first performance, but has been triumphant ever since!

pfft "the seagull was the first play with characters that have nuanced emotional journeys." I was there for everything else but that was a major eyeroll.

I’m reading a bio of Chekhov without reading anything by him except the 5 novellas... much towards the end of the book, I ordered the Seagull with Annette Bening... in the dialogue, I could see Chekhov’s life float by in the film ... was weird experience..

Are you quite sure that Steven Seagal is one of the "People Mentioned" in this video?

Do you know the theme music at the start of the video?

If this is intended to be "Realism, " why do all the principal characters open with a full-disclosure monologue, explaining EVERYTHING about themselves? (And goodness, in the last scene, the principal character walks off-stage and shoots himself, which seems a frequent occurrence in many plays, i.e., Hedda Gabler, etc.) Much as I admire Chekov's plays, The Seagull is a blending of Melodrama and formulaic devices.

"The first great play of the twentieth century...." Quite a statement, eh? Where has he been? On another planet. Still, when you have to sell a production I suppose you say anything.

Too many posh pansies in British theatre these days we need to get back to where it was at in the 60s/70s.
