STRAINERS
---------------------------------------------------------
3 TYPES that are IMPORTANT TO HAVE:
1. COLANDER
2. STRAINERS (also called SIEVES)
a) 8 inch in diameter - the best ONE to buy. Other strainer options are one with a:
b) 5 inch diameter - sifting smaller amounts of flour, or a strainer with a:
c) 3 and 1/8 inch diameter - for separating the pulp from the juice of citrus juices
3. Tea ball strainers are for loose tea
4. A Flour Sifter with a crank - this can do the same as the 8 or 5 inch strainers.

My objective for this channel is to share with others what I have learned over the last 30+ years about living and eating healthier. I share my knowledge with my small circle of friends all the time. I am not a doctor, nor do I hold any type of medical degree, but I believe that my tried experiences may help someone else.

For over 30 years I have used every diet imaginable to lose weight, but I confess that I am now at home using the vegan lifestyle. I want to share what I have learned about eating and enjoying food. And, since I am still learning how to be more consistent with this lifestyle, I have decided to eat more healthily, realizing the weight will come off eventually. Though I have not reached my goal weight, I know that sharing with other people in front of a camera with help me to stay on course.

I have, with the help of my husband of 37 years, raised 3 grown children. I will also share some cooking shortcuts as well as some natural formulas I have used and still use for everyday problems.

I really like that little tea strainer. Looks so cute. I've never saw someone using a strainer to make a cup tea! This one just opened my mind.

I have 2 small strainers/sieves. One is very deep. I put a little dried ginger in it and sit it on a cup of boiled water. Doesn't take long for a significant lemon juice and 2 drops of liquid stevia, Yum

Very informative, Berta. I always get good ideas when you do equipment videos. I have the same green Tupperware colander [got mine in the 80s - it's ancient but it still looks pretty good]. Because I was leery of putting hot items in the plastic, I never used it for pasta etc. I use it to rinse greens & wash berries, vegetables & fruit. I wash almost all produce because I'm so hyper about pesticides etc. But even organic produce gets washed at my house because, as my Dad said - "Birds can fly..." Haha. I put whatever in the colander, spray it with a solution of Dr Bronner's SalSuds & water [VERY little SalSuds - only a couple of drops per quart of water], let it sit for a half hour or so, then rinse it VERY well with cold water. The SalSuds is a great & environmentally-friendly produce wash. I love your little tea strainer too! Reminds me of the one my Mom had. She made herself a pot of tea almost every day around 4 pm - just like the British do - although she usually made iced tea in hot weather. She also had something like looked a lot like your tea strainer, except it had a chain instead of a handle. She used that for fresh herbs when making homemade sauces [spaghetti etc]. When finished, she could pull the "herb strainer" out of the sauce using the chain & a pair of tongs - remove the used herbs from inside & wash everything up! PS - your hair looks super cute in this video! ❤️🥕❤️

I just finished rinsing some beans I had soaked in my colander, when I saw your video. So I checked, and the holes are on the bottom, and jus about 1 1/2 inches up the side. Thankyou for the information.

Can we use the strainer to separate oil

For the first time I detached pomegranate from the rest of the fruit pulp and strained it! I got most the seed out of it when I put it in the blender and stained it!

But when I tasted it it still tasted a bit too grainy!
Question: Is there strainers that have smaller openings which would be quite tiny compared to the average smaller strainer? Thanks. Bill

Hi, that was so informative! I only have one question, what are the hooks on front edges of the sieves for?
