Don’t respond to ‘Buon giornata!’ with ‘Anche tu!’ Here’s why! ❌😵

When someone wishes you a ‘buona serata’ (have a great evening) or ‘buona giornata’ (have a great day), you can’t respond with ‘anche tu!’ (also you), because the full expression is actually ‘I wish TO YOU, a great day’ (ti auguro una buona giornata).

‘Ti’ is an indirect object pronoun which means ‘to you’, so the correct response is ‘anche A TE’, ‘anche A TE’.

For example

- Buona giornata Michele! Anche a te! (informal - tu, to one person)
- Buona serata! Noi andiamo! - Anche a voi! (plural - voi, to a group of people)
- Buon serata Signora! Anche a Lei (informal - Lei, to one person)
