The Second Great War ended the lives of 65 to 80 million people. After five years… eight months, and one week, Germany surrendered. After six years and one day, the Japanese. Ignoring the swastika forced on the Wehrmacht’s uniforms, the Japanese attack on Pearl, the Waffen SS’s war crimes, and Italy’s fascism, we thank every soldier and nation that served during the Second Great War. We thank the Polish soldier who fought against the advancing Soviets. Thank the Finnish sniper that kept his country’s independence alive from the communist invaders. Thank the Danish officer that fought the Germans in his last six hours. Thank the Luxembourgish soldier that fought his last twelve. Thank the Spitfire pilot that fought Stukas at Dunkirk. Thank the Czech pilot that fought the Heinkels above the English Channel. Thank the Korean soldier that blew up Japanese bridges. Thank the Greek gunner who defended escorts to supply Britain. Thank the Ethiopian soldier that spat on Mussolini’s name. Thank the Australian gunner in North Africa who fought Rommel’s Panzers. Thank the Soviet-Kazakh soldier that defended Moscow. Thank the Yugoslav partisan that fought the SS. Thank the Japanese soldier that defended the ‘canal against marines. Thank the Soviet-Belorussian tanker that fought Panzer IIIs at Kursk. The Chinese pilot who fought Zeroes over Chongqing. Thank the Norwegian resistance that sabotaged Germany’s atomic bomb. Thank the Tuskegee Airman that fought with Fortresses against 109s over Germany. Thank the Mexican soldier that stormed Monte Cassino. Thank the Ukrainian soldier that defended Germany’s Atlantic Wall. Thank the Canadian soldier that died at Juno Beach. Thank the Tirailleur that fought in Provance, France. Thank the German soldier who shared foxholes with his brothers in the Ardennes. Thank the Thai pilot that dogfought Mustangs. Thank the Native American in the 45th Division that liberated Dachau. Thank the Italian resistance that executed Il Duce. Thank the Soviet-Russian gunner that battled Tigers in Berlin. We thank all men who fought as heroes instead of murderers in the Second Great War.
