If your oil is between the checkered area, it is perfectly fine. You don’t need to add oil; you can keep driving your car and nothing will happen. However, once it hit the bottom of the checkered area, you must add more oil or figure why you’re losing oil. Personally, I keep my oil level between full and half mark. I have. 3.5 ecoboost. I change my oil every 2 months or 5, 000 miles which ever comes first.

When I pull the stick out, I have oil on it a little past the holes, but only 2 holes have oil thru them, I can see str8 thru the other 2 holes. Do I read it by how many holes have oil in them, or read the actual oil on the actual stick?🤔🧐

I gotta question, and I think I know what it means...here goes. When I checked my oil tonight no matter how many times I checked it, the whole section, from the twist to the tip has oil on it. 2 weeks ago, had a major over heating event. The car went into "Limp" mode. Prior to that, oil was just below the top hole(like you said, thinking one quart down.) Replaced water pump, thermostat, radiator. Still overheating. What do you think? I'm not going to say what I'm thinking because I am wondering if you go to the same conclusion.

This does not apply to my corolla im. It will show oil past the last hole even when its half empty.

If you check you dipstick that way, the oil will magically gets bigger😅
