I am win 7 pro dual boot. I used windows disc. At first screen Click next. Second screen choose repair. From repair options choose restore point. Windows will automatically choose latest restore point. After 20 mins restore failed. So i choose repair again, and restore point again, this time round its called manual and gives me a list of restore points. I choose one further back (Before the bad program) . It works for 20 mins. I have a dual boot system with WinXP in the first partition and win 7 in the second partition.
I have been trying to make it work like before(dual boot menu working for both) but now I can
only work one or the other using plop and after using EasyBcd to add the boot database " BCD "
on each of the partition's boot sector. This happened while I was trying to make a buck up of
my partitions to a separate drive using partition magic to clone each partition sector by sector.
I tried to run repair with win 7 recovery installation cd to recover but it cannot find the
installation at first. I need to run bootrec /scanos to locate the d:\System. After fix MBR and
fixboot (successfully completing) then when I run rebuild BCD It says does not recognize the
windows system or cannot locate drivers and does not rebuild the BCD. When I run PLOP and boot
from the second partition (D) the old dual boot menu appears but when I hit return with win 7
chosen I get the black screen with a whole bunch of error messages(Windows failed to start,
Insert your installation CD to repair the system...) and an error code with
Can anyone help me make a working clone of my system? I learned about some hidden partition
that exists in win 7 and up versions of windows installations. Where is that partition located
on the drive? Is it hidden within the Win 7 partition or somewhere else on the drive between
c: and d: or right after d:?

I have Windows 7 pro, the disc recovery detected the OS, but bcdedit did not, wtf

In the prompt black window I've got x: \Sources> instead of x: \windows\system12>. I was able to change the directory to windows\sysWOW64 since it a 64 bit system. However, down the road I got a massage: "A duplicate file name exists, or the file cannot be found" and when ignoring and moving on to scanning, I've got 0 file to choose from
