I have a d color excellent cut flawless, size 5/8 carat. That little rock sparkles BIGtime! Its not about size, its about the love with which that ring was given. I never knew about diamonds at the time and was presented with this ring out of the blue. Total surprise. The ring still blows me away, 38 years later. Thats what counts!!

The cut actually refers to the way the diamond is cut to show fire, brilliance, and scintillation. For example GIA ideal cut, excellent cut, very good etc… Cut is most important C because that is what determines the diamond’s sparkle. Shape refers to round, oval, pear, princess, radiant etc and is not a 4 C. You can have a D color, 1.5 carat VVS1, but if the cut is only good, the diamond will look dark and dirty.

Just bought an engagement ring for my gf. It is 1.8 carats. Just out of complete ignorance and being a 27yo guy, I wasn’t sure if that was a good size or not. Although I know my gf wouldn’t care at all, I wouldn’t want her to show her coworkers or cousins and they think “damn that’s a small diamond.” Long story short this video made me feel better lol

I find it really interesting how different parts of the world have different “ideal” or average engagement ring carat size. Here in Japan, the average is around 0.25-0.3. My Japanese fiance got me a 0.39 carat ring from Tiffany’s and although this may seem dainty and small compared to US average, it feels and looks pretty big on my fingers! So I can’t imagine wearing a 1.0 or above sized carat especially for everyday use😂 this is my first diamond I’ve ever owned but one thing I learned is that no matter the size of the carat, diamond is super duper shiny and sparkly<3 diamonds are so beautiful

I put together a round 0.56, D color, super ideal cut, FLAWLESS clarity, in a solitary platinum setting. W GIA certification for $4900 on brilliant earth.

I don't know anyone with an excellent cut, D, FLAWLESS, platinum ring! Heirloom type item.

I’d rather have a lab grown 3 carat than a .9 I’m underwhelmed by.

Depth % affects sparkle so going too shallow may give you a duller stone. Cut is more important than color. An ideal cut H diamond is better than a good cut E.

A 0.6 carat stone that's well cut is very nice. If it has good dimensions and clarity it's still going to be expensive. I finally upgraded hers to a 1.7 that's just about perfect and it was $23k. Trust me, don't over do it initially. You can always upgrade, just get that sparkle!

Question! I've heard that if you're going to have a yellow gold band, getting a slightly yellower diamond is a good idea since the light will reflect yellow in the diamond regardless of color. Is this correct?

Honestly, I wouldn’t want anything bigger. It just doesn’t seem practical for every day life.

Be careful going shallow like the vid says. The shallow diamond might look physically bigger but it’s going to be dark and dull. No fire

Moissanite is taking over the game. More fire than diamonds, only 5% less hardness, more ethical, way cheaper, genuine stone with certification... and it's from SPACE!

I’d say cut is most important. A great cut can hide many flaws on a lower clarity, and a nice cut can hide color as well. Excellent/Ideal cut, D-H color (IJ for some, especially in yellow gold settings), and clarity SI2 or higher. May have to do some digging and curation to find an eye clean SI1/SI2, but completely possible.

What do you think of princess cut diamond for an engagement ringer center stone? It doesn’t see super popular.
