I’ve been spending a few minutes in the Rosetta Stone app every day the last couple of weeks to re-learn Tagalog, and it’s been very interesting.

I realized that although I understand the language on screen, it’s a very different experience speaking it out loud using their voice recognition software.

It’s helping me practice saying the words without my tongue twisting, AND I’m hearing so many Tagalog phrases and words that I haven’t heard in so long.

I’m having so much fun, and Doug is learning a few Tagalog words along with me! I feel like I’m a child again, surrounded by my family speaking Tagalog in the Philippines 🥹

I can’t wait to speak to my grandma in Tagalog on FaceTime soon ♥️

When my grandmother passed, I basically stopped speaking Spanish and I definitely wouldn't consider myself fluent anymore.

I love the sound of Tagalog. One of my favorite sounding languages, including Cantonese, Welsh, French, Korean and maybe Javanese and Japanese as well.

The volume is weirdly making my brain itchy

my brain: this vid was just made as an Ad cause Jeanelle can just speak with her parents or relatives in the Philippines to be fluent again, no need for an app. One just needs time to immerse in the language.

Love how you can still pronounce the word Tagalog with all the open “a”s.👍

Same, with a sad reason. But I understand this so much because I had to relearn Cantonese and Mandari, all the people I met don't speak them which slowly I forgot how to speak the language's and I feel bad so I'm learn it and I also STILL learning English..

(English is not my first language. Cantonese is.)

well done, I didn't learn Chinese growing up (tried a few times but wasn't consistent) so language is a big barrier between me and my grandparents. My parents speak Chinese at home so ppl sometimes ask why I didn't pick it up. I'm not super sure, maybe bc when I was little my mum wanted to get better at English so they only spoke in English for a while, maybe bc they always argue in Chinese so I blocked it out, maybe bc I rarely was spoken to in Chinese. Or maybe stupidity, but my brothers didn't pick it up either and my older brother is quite smart. It's a shame I am not very close with my grandparents because of this and I'm doing my HSC now so it's pretty hard to balance right now. I wish I tried harder when I had more time, but I wanted to "erase" my Chineseness because of covid and because of racism at school. But that was so stupid and I hate that I prioritised racist people's opinions over my relationship with my grandparents. Idk why I didn't try harder in primary school too. Argh fuck me.

How old you move to us? I moved to Canada at age of 12 but we speak Tagalog in the house. I might not able to write or read Filipino well but I can still speak it.

Don't lose your Tagalog! I hope you get fluent in it again. It amazes me when content creators can switch between their native language and second and third, so on and so forth.

I'm having trouble hearing this short. I turned up the volume thinking an error but no. Still low sound. Played another short, the volumes bursting.
