In some places they do also have the same name! Parts of Australia (and apparently Quebec) refer to the spring onions/scallions/green onions as shallots. The shallot on the right where I live is usually differentiated by calling it a "French shallot" or "eschalot"

Oh man I love Mexican grilling onions. They are so good in a stir fry. More delicate than regular onions, don't have the sulfury taste, and are delicious. Even if you just fry em up in butter, they are so good.

Mom used to grow green onions in her garden. Often. She’d replant 2-3-4 times a summer. We’d pull them and eat them with the tomatoes and the flavor was heaven. No bitter. Just warm from outdoors tomatoes & tasty green onions with a little salt.
My mother’s garden: 😊.

I have a whole aquaponics tank setup just to grow enough green onion for my cooking. Totally worth it. I put that shit on everything.

I work in the produce section at a fancy grocery store and three times a week a instacart shopper will ask me why they are called scallions but labeled green onions, confusing groceries be confusing yo

When I was first getting into cooking, I would also confuse scallops with these two, luckily a harder mistake to make at the grocery store.

Love this series man, looking forward to when they get more obscure.

Chives, green onions, Welsh onions, and leeks always trip me up a bit (not to mention Chinese chives). It's hard to find Welsh onions in the US without going to an Asian grocery store, they're everywhere

This series is amazing! I would love an episode on peppers! Habanero, pablano, chillis etc. maybe also mention dried vs fresh idk?

Australian, we call both shallots. We also use the phrase spring onion for any non-chive onion greens, and for the bulbs french onion and eshallot are also common but otherwise the chips-is-chips mentality applies

These videos make me realize how many things I figure out just by retaining things I see in cooking videos and having a good sense of logic
