To be fair, regardless of whether women were submissive or not, the evidence is heavily stacked against her. Of course if she says she's innocent it would be disregarded. Everyone says their innocent. Of course there wouldn't be any belief given to Elizabeth because simply saying someone is too innocent isn't in any way evidence and would, even today, clearly be dismissed. If it were this easy to get out of a guilty verdict no one would be in prison. Also, Victor, even if he were a women, would have an actual reason for her innocence. He himself also completely disregards this as he believes he'd be looked at as a madman and rightfully so. Him being a man did nothing. The court would never believe him if he said a monster did it. Think about it. I think the summary at the end missed the boat entirely and it has nothing to do with women being submissive to men. It simply adds to the horror and guilt of Victor. Comment if you think I'm right.

Victor wanted to confess but he wasn’t present when william died so they’d know he is lying.
