Vector Fire in Illustrator

This is adobe illustrator tutorial on how to make 100% vector fire using custom brush and gradient mesh background.
It work in all versions starting from illustrator 10.

For those missing some steps and going nowhere/getting those white lines:
1. Bottom ellipse black, opacity - 0%.
2. Upper ellipse much thinner a bit shorter - white, opacity - 100%.
3. Select both -> Blend -> Blending mode by steps (30) - EXPAND (Fill and strokes).
4. Drag and drop to brushes, choose art brush.
5. Drag a black rectangle upon the artboard.
6. Mesh tool (U) - one anchor at the middle bottom of the artboard, another at 1/4 - 1/3 of the new vertical line.
7. Select bottom mesh anchor point with direct selection tool, set its RGB color as shown in the tutorial (R ~50, G~25, B~5), set upper mesh anchor point's RGB color to app. R~15, G~5, B = 0.
Select you brush tool. Choose strokes. Set trasparency (in the transparency window, if not shown, go to Window -> Transparency) to Overlay! (default = Normal). Transparency panel is one of the most important tools in AI, always experiment with it!
8. Enjoy.
P.S. This method is cool as it allows you to 'increase' the intensity of the flame in brush strokes intersections which looks very realistic.

I'm not sure where you are getting those orange colors from with your paintbrush, all it does for me with overlay on is white lines. I feel like I'm missing a step.

Interesting tutorial, but it doesn't work. I keep getting white lines with the brush. I did change to overlay and watched your steps several times over but no prevail.

My colors aren't the same, also when I add the color to the background it's surrounded by a faint white before the original black background.

Cool technique, but JesusChrist that Goddamn bird sound or whatever in the BG is almost insufferable.
