Howdy doody, frienderoonies! Today we're here to talk about my process for scoring videos! I don't do too much media composition work, but it is something I want to get more into in the future as it is quite a bit of fun.

Scoring is a bit of a tricky beast as it's not really about writing music for the sake of writing music but rather about putting together pieces that help tie together an emotional narrative while not overtaking the action on screen.

In this video, we'll be going from start to finish all the way from a blank session through to the final mixing and mastering bits to create a finished product!

For people curious about a Cimbalom, it's like a Dulcimer, a stringed instrument played with mallet. It was used by Hans Zimmer extensively in Sherlock Holmes soundtrack.

So awesome. I've also heard of people making production music and doing it to ads or shows even though it's not being put to that. Super fun.

Loved the end result! I'm still learning Reason but got a short 3D animation film from a friend to practice scoring and sound design. Unfortunately no video and frame by frame support in Reason yet.

Intimate strings was so good that it actually made me fall in love with spitfire and I recently purchased Albion one because of the quality of the originals series. I regret so much buying some of my orch libraries when I could of just brought Albion one. So much money wasted. Also artic swells is fantastic. Spitfire really are just a fantastic company.

Fun fact about the Eventide H3000 - it's responsible for the iconic delay sounds in Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion album, especially the piano and acoustic guitar sections.

Very cool! I always make house, but as I am getting older, I would like to try different things but I think I am a little scared of jumping genres..

can personally vouch for the PSP Infinistrip, especially the comps. all three (vca, fet and opto) sound super good, if it weren't for Arturia's FET and DBX emulations then these would be my favourite of the dozens i've tried of each. The only other opto I prefer over this one is the Slate LA2A but that's it honestly, alas I really just wanna insist that these have their own colour that I just adore. They all occur to me as a little lighter on the harmonic colouration so more fast and loose.

Can you please make a video about making a cinematic/orchestral piece with Bitwig. I would love to see how you approach setting up a bunch of Spitfire stuff. A new Kontakt instance for each track or play around with midi routing? Etc… I know the sandbox nature of Bitwig presents some interesting options. Cheers and great work.

Ardour + Xjadeo would be the "cheapest" option I'd say (gratis if you bother to learn how to compile software).
