Joshua Tree National Park Backpacking | California Riding & Hiking Trail, Jonny Lang Canyon

In this video, Catherine Gregory, Jarl Aanestad and I celebrate the New Year by backpacking through Joshua Tree National Park. We start the trip on the California Riding and Hiking Trail and as we head westward, we deviate from the trail to explore some canyons.

You got some very beautiful shots! Joshua Tree NP is just SO beautiful. And I still can't get over how much snow was there lol It definitely got below freezing in HIdden Valley CG on New Years Eve! The next morning we had frozen water haha

We've, my wife and I, have been enjoying your prep and hikes heading into 2020 for the pct. Something to consider, that very few people do, is the color of your clothing. You can stay, for the through hike temperatures, 5 to 10 degrees cooler wearing pure white clothing in those summer months. Any little bit of color in the cloth absorbs more heat. Another benifit is many insects, mosquitos especially, are attracted to dark colors, black, blues, purples, reds. Also, keep in mind that a trail like the pct is a trail of attrition. It wears you down over time. Anything you don't really need, don't bring. Get those pack onces and pounds down as low as posdible. I have a feeling you'll do well. You seem determined and knowledgeable and working on those hiking muscles. Have fun doing what you're doing. We'll be cheering for ya.

Fantastic looking hike! Also with staking out the tent with rocks, you could try tying the guylines to a stick or smaller rock and then pile bigger rocks on top of that.
