FAB OR FLOP?? FIVE BELOW CRAFT KITS PUT TO THE TEST!

Hi Corie thanks for trying these so we can see what they are like, I really liked the gold
leaf kit, that looked great. My favourite was the screen printing. I bought a screen printing kit for my grandson but it didn’t really work properly. Myself, my daughter and my grandson all had a go with the screen printing and it didn’t work properly, a big disappointment for my grandson. The one you’ve got was so much better. I don’t think many of them worked very well, you’re right with instructions, they aren’t clear enough, but it looked like so much fun to try them. The resin one helped me as ages ago I purchased a resin kit and it came with absolutely no instructions whatsoever, which was disappointing for me but now I’ve seen you do this one I’m going to try and find my stuff now and give it a go. They don’t give you much stuff with the kits and I recall. I didn’t get much resin etc. with mine. Thanks so much for sharing them with all of us.

Hi Corrie! The resin one was neat but I agree it was too dark. I wonder if you could line the honey combs with plastic in pop them out when they set? Or cut the honey comb shape, slightly smaller from the back, tape them back on for the process and when set, remove the back so light can shine through?

I think the only kit that is age appropriate was maybe the screen print! I like the resin pour, maybe less of the ink to lighten the color? It is pretty!

I've watched a number of paint pours and I've always seen the individual colors layered into one cup and that's why you want the consistency of the paint to be like buttermilk. Also you can add a a drop or 2 of frizz ease and that will cause neat "cells". I think you added your gold leaf too quickly you usually wait until the glue gets tacky before adding the gold leaf then wait for it to dry and then just brush the leaf off.

My favorite was the pillow! The pour one reminded me of a stormy night. The foil one was interesting and I would probably try only these three. I keep forgetting 5 below stores I need go to ours.

Even though the art pouring was a mess with the white it didn't look too bad at the end.

On the foil I was surprised you didn't use the paper that came with it on the first try. Since you haven't done it before I would have thought you would have followed the directions exactly. Then you said you didn't know what to do which made me wonder if you read the directions.
I was shocked to see the screen print worked. With the screen and print being two different pieces I thought for sure you were going to get a ton of bleeding. Watching the crafters that do Chalk Catoure the screen prints are all one item.

The gilding didn't work but if you like that type of art it turned out good!
On the resin one do you think if you pop those out of the brown box and flip them over you'll see the first color and they would be prettier? Maybe hold up to the light?

Pillow very cute 🥰, the others seemed to dark for me..I couldn’t see the design on canvas for 1, and I wished there was another color than the black with the gold foil, HOWEVER, you get an “A+” for effort, courage and bravery! Now I know what to buy and not to buy 🥴😝

The only one that I thought actually had results that were like they were supposed to be was the screen print. All the rest were fails, and not due to user error. On the gold leaf kit, I believe that the glue stays tacky long after it is completely dry so that you do not have to hurry to get the gold leaf on it. I don´t think I will be spending my money on these kits. I have only been in Five Below once and decided that I din´t lose anything in there and won´t be going back.

It looks to me that the resin pieces should be taken out of the mould and used as tiles to create the effect on the box……just a suggestion.

I think the cardboard is just a mold…resin pieces are meant to be “popped out” and used for crafting after removal

Corie, I really don't think the problems with these kits were in any way your fault. The kits were just cheesy. I am not crazy about 5 Below in general. Cheap junk. Honestly, Dollar Tree has better stuff.
