A Special 2G Court on Thursday, discharged former telecommunications secretary Shyamal Ghosh, Bharti Airtel Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, three other companies among others, in a case related to allocation of additional spectrum for mobile phone services.
Judge O.P. Saini asked the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe and file a case against the officer who gave fabricated reports against them, while discharging Hutchinson, Sterling Cellular and Bharti Cellular, from the case.
Mittal, Ghosh and three mobile phone operators — Hutchison Max(P) Ltd, Sterling Cellular Ltd and Bharti Cellular Ltd – were being tried for their role in procuring additional spectrum from Department of Telecommunications (DoT), which the CBI says a move that led to a loss of Rs 846.44 crore to the government.
