Some judo techniques are power techniques where you can apply brute force to take uke over. Ashiwaza are not those types of techniques. Good timing is necessary.

This is actually SO important for every nocive to understand, for Uke as well as for Tori. During my classes it happens almost every time that one kid is actively preventing the preparation of the throw by blocking during the Kuzushi or stepping out of the way or not stepping at all at the critical moment right before the throw. This always rattles the Tori kid because it doesn't understand why his attempt just does not work and they get frustrated.
I always encourage these kids to work cooperatively together to learn the principles of these throws and help each other to pinpoint weaknesses during the execution by pointing out flaws.
Especially when two novice kids are training together it happens far too often that instead they hinder each other because they believe it's an achievement to prevent being thrown. I try to explain them that they can't expect someone to put them off balance and throw them perfectly when they are just starting to learn the basics of this technique, but it seems that especially jounger kids often have their ego getting in the way.
A possible solution would be to pair novices with advanced students who know how to fall and allow being thrown.

Yeah don't try to force it, make it feel natural... for me I'm struggling a bit right now or confused with it due to certain issues.
