Dutch Traditions: Harvest Feast in Sevenum (1947)

EN - In Sevenum, Limburg, a parade is held with all kinds of scenes from country life, on the occasion of the Thanksgiving for the harvest, also known as Maaiers Zondag (Reaper Sunday). In the fields, the harvest is almost done: the wheat is tied in sheaves, and a reaper makes the last strokes with a sickle. In the procession we see old-fashioned scenes, but also an emigrant boat, which depicts the exodus of farmers from the region to Brazil.

NL - In Sevenum, Limburg, wordt een optocht gehouden met allerlei taferelen uit het landleven, ter gelegenheid van het Dankfeest voor de oogst, ook wel Maaiers Zondag genoemd. Op het land is het oogsten bijna gedaan: het koren staat in schoven gebonden, en een maaier doet de laatste slagen met een sikkel. In de optocht zien we ouderwetse taferelen, maar ook een emigrantenboot, waarmee de uittocht van boeren uit de streek naar Brazilië wordt uitgebeeld.
