The Triumph TE-1 is the Hinckley brands first foray into the world of electric motorcycles.

And why it isn’t a bike you can own or even ride, it is said to be a nod in the direction the company wants to take.

Here we talk to Steve Sargent from Triumph, to get the lowdown on the bike and it’s development.

Glad there was focus on the business. It's a unique time in history, and there are a lot of challenges right in front of these manufacturers. Gotta be tough to stay on top of all the competing motive technologies and still stay true to the brand's personality. Triumph will do okay, I'd think.

Would make for a good daily commuter bike. But would need to be charged pretty regularly. Double the range & could be a big seller.

Get it into production!!

Cool bike for the track, I wouldn't ride it on the streets cause I need more then 100 range and the convenience of refilling my gas tank in under 1 minute is hard to beat. 🙂

I . this concept electric bike, but HOW would either of these men be able throw a leg over this thing?? . Even if it weren't elevated 2 inches off the floor?

TE-1 gorgeous looking bike, i like the style and the belt drive for an EV but the 20 minutes recharge time for such a small 15 kwh battery is not class leading, 800 volt tech cars like the EV6GT recharge an over 77kWh battery 80% in 18 minutes, that's 5 times bigger batteries (with over 300 miles range) charged 2 minutes faster than the TE-1 (100 miles range). Also the new Energica bikes have a bigger more range more acceleration 21.5 kWh battery charged in little longer than the TE-1 and their 13.4 kWh battery charges 80% similarly fast as the TE-1. Smaller batteries charge faster than bigger 21.5 kWh batteries (strange they did not mention that and claim it's a plus, less range and kWh charges faster)

Excellent for 1 person. It looks maintenance free and low in noise so make a 2seater version and where all happy.

Road trip for bikers are much more than 100 miles and he is talking about city range, not sports bikes range

I would hope they would have taken the opportunity to design an actually aerodynamic motorcycle instead of worrying about how good it looks sat next to their current crop of bikes. They could have doubled the range of halved the battery capacity

people dont even buy electric because of the few benefits. No, they buy because they like something the brand stands for. Elon musk just makes futuristic cars that appeal to the market. People buy those cars because they like the image not just because the cars are electric.Tesla is a lot like Apple in my opinion. Because both brands have a strong motive to make what their making. People believe in their product and want to be a part of it. Because elon made electric popular with tesla, many manufactures think they can just start making electric vehicles as some sort of side hustle. That is just wrong, Apple is dedicated to their products and so is Tesla. A company cannot just suddenly change something as big as the engine in a motorcycle and expect people to buy it. For example: elon musk wanted to build a "sustainable" car for the future, he is doing that and everyone believes his story. Now, lets take Triumph for an example. what does their story tell you? I know what it tells me, it tells me that triumph would rather be making ICE powered bikes like they always did but now they " HAVE TO " make electric vehicles because of external factors and the sad future. Well, that doesnt give me the impression that their product is build with passion, even if it is. My point is: you have to dedicate your product to your story as a company. You cant just start making an electric bike and expect people to believe in your brand. And on top of that accept that the company will stop making their favorite ICE motorcycles. You have to change your story first, make sure everyone knows why you want to make the product you are making. For triumph It could even be a wise move to make a new brand for specifically electric motorcycles. This way they can make people exited with a unique story that is specifically formed around electric motorcycles. If the story is good enough, people will believe in their products and that is what sells the best.

I even have a little proof to back up my words, look at Zero motorcycles. Lets be honest, it is a pretty bad motorcycle company but it sells products because it is going all in on electric. They are showing dedication and a love for making their product. And i think its the reason they succeed

This all sounds great. However if triumph could just design bikes where their chains don't snap in 2000 miles on a brand new bike and almost kill my mate that would be great.

Hahaha! It was hilarious when he asked him not to launch an electric urban scooter after doing all their research with this bike 😂 He basically threw a spear right into BMW's pride 😂 (I'm a BMW rider btw)
