I grew up in New York City, and lived in Florida for a few years for school. I met a girl there, she was a native of South Florida. Here is I think the most striking difference I found between us:

In New York, we're taught sharks are to be feared. Eventually a small number of us (like myself) actually learn that they rarely "attack" people without provocation, BUT you are still taught to not be in the water if one is within 100 yards of you. Jaws was set on Long Island, after all. lol.

My Florida friend, on the other hand, was not only unafraid of sharks, she told me when she sees them in the water while surfing she sometimes chases them for fun. I think I had a mini anxiety attack when she told me that. *Who the hell chases SHARKS for fun?!*

Floridians do, that's who.
