A spirited effort! According to Fred Gaisberg's diaries, Sabajno had 35 players at his disposal, so that in this respect he was no worse off than (for example) Landon Ronald and Albert Coates were when conducting for H.M.V. fifteen years later. This series of records includes some ambitious items like the 'Lohengrin' Prelude (beginning with with seven or eight violins valiantly trying to sound like thirty-two), the Ride of the Valkyries, and (in 1909) the closing pages of Elgar's 'In the South', five years before Elgar himself first entered the studios.
