How I'd Balance Quickscoping in Modern Warfare II

Quickscoping is often a hot topic in Call of Duty and with Modern Warfare II coming up this year, I wanted to share my thoughts on how I'd like to see them try to balance Quickscoping this time around to hopefully make snipers happy while also providing some proper counterplay based on the new attachment tuning. What do you want to see when it comes to Quickcoping in MWII? Do you like the idea of trading off Flinch Resistance for ADS Speed?

Great video. Agreed with pretty much every point u said about keeping snipers balanced, but viable and fun to use. The slider idea with the tradeoff being flinch instead of bullet velocity keeps the snipers fun to use even at decent range. Personally believe taking aim assist away from snipers is also a good alternative, makes sniping challenging so casuals cant just pick it up and start going hard.

I agree with this.
LMG’s need an overhaul too.
They are either treated as AR’s with worse handling, or high damage bullet monsters, that are soo slow it doesn’t matter if you have 100rds, you will be dead before you can ADS.

I 100% agree with the flinch trade off. Nothing frustrates me more than pumping a few shots into a quick scoper while they just stand there eating bullets like they’re candy and just blast me like nothing was happening.

As someone who predominantly uses snipers in cod, I thought I was going to disagree with most of the video, but I actually found it to be the opposite. The idea of a slider going from flinch to ads seems like a fair trade-off to me, and I believe that it would convert perfectly to warzone as well. Somewhat off topic, but the the recent nerf to the "aggressive" snipers in warzone could have been handled much differently imo. A slider, or attachments that could have emulated the slider would have been a better alternative instead of just nerfing more than half the snipers outright.

Agree with the vid for the most part. Especially the ADS speed vs Flinch part. We are very used to MASSIVE flinch (MW2 and 3) so this wouldn't be a problem if the ADS speed is similar to those games when maxed out. Quickscoping is the hardest thing you can do in the game. Even back in MW2/3, you had one shot, and if you hit marked or missed you died. A really good quickscoper imo SHOULD be able to absolutely decimate any lobby. I feel like you've earned it. All insane quickscopers are insane reg gunners, but not all insane reg gunners are insane quickscopers and I think that says something. Quickscoping has always been sort of an art. Not anyone can do it. It requires mastery of the fundamentals of reg gunning to even start quick scoping effectively and hitting your first quad or 6 on, let alone trick shotting a quad head nosc ender for the last kill or something. BECAUSE insane quickscopers are insane reg gunners, I don't think it makes sense to nerf snipers into the ground because quickscopers will be forced to use reg guns, and this could potentially cause the lobby to get dominated even harder than they would if the player was using a sniper because reg gunning is easier.

"Hard scoping" is also something that needs to be addressed. Between map design and the scope glint I feel like sniper rifles are at a constant disadvantage no matter the distance which either encourages "quick scoping" or simply pushes players away from snipers entirely. More rifle and attachment options are another important thing for players that want to use them.

The shorter barrels and ads speed increasing attachments should add some degree of flinch to sniper/marksman rifles. It's fair considering snipers have the capability to 1 shot body shot.

What I’d like to see is fastest Sniper ADS speeds more or less equal to the average ADS+TTK of AR’s at say 30m. I agree they shouldnt outclass SMG’s.

I’d also rather see flinch for snipers rather than lazerbeam assault rifles.

Black Ops 4 got this really wrong where reg gun TTK was hella slow then the Koshka was around half of that.

I agree with you 100%. The quicker ADS means higher flinch would be a good trade off. Lower Recoil and slower ADS would be less flinch. I think this may be the sweet spot for "High Risk, High Reward" type gameplay of quickscoping.

I thought MW19 did a great job of balancing quickscoping pre SPR. The MK2 and the Kar were fast, but had smaller one shot areas than the actual snipers. The TTK was also fast enough so that they can’t just eat bullets. The SPR broke that pattern. It was fast and had a large kill area. Flinch is a good balance tool also, but I think limiting the speed on the heavy duty snipers will be just fine for MW2.

I don’t always agree with your opinions, but in this situation, I can’t agree more!

Especially about the flinch / ADS trade off! Obviously within limits though

Snipers shouldn’t be completely trash and not useable like they are in vanguard.

People who complain about quick scoping are the same players who never stray away from the meta guns. If you use a harder gun to use and get punished for it, then you lost to the better player. Honestly, I think quickscoping is the biggest skill gap in COD games. If I get quickscoped, I have enough confidence in my accuracy to switch over to a sniper and be able to shit on them back and im mainly a smg player

I think this is a great idea. Every weapon in cod has some sort of trade off and roll, and I don’t think risk reward is a big enough one for close range sniping. Flinch is a great solution imo, it means that you can actually win gunfights against them

Quickscopers have one chance and one chance only in a gunfight. The amount of time they have put into it and the humiliation they have suffered to achieve a decent level of skills is a reasonable trade off. Vanguard is not a quickscope-friendly game mainly because of the insane TTK and the absurd ADS for bolt action rifles. Things will hopefully get better for them in MWII.

As a quockscoper myself, I love your idea for flinch and ADS being on opposite ends. It forces you to have the skill of centering mastered if you want that faster ADS

as an only sniper user i think sniping in modern warfare 2019 was almost perfect. i agree with the take of more speed should be more flinch. i like that in 2019 you level up your gun and get faster attachments. it was a great progression. the problem with vanguard is that the reg guns are just so much faster than a basic sniper with nothing. leveling up to a fast sniper was agony. compared to older cod games sniping in general has so much more counterplay considering that riotshields just counter sniping even a shield on you team could counter a shot. theres so much movement in the game that snipers now have to predict wether a person will slide cancel or not. those two things are fine. 2019 also had more variety of snipers that i think was ideal. very fast ones that you have to hit the headshot or slow ones that can blow you up. and then if you open yourself up to the world of slug shotguns. you got acces to a whole new kind of sniper very fun. theres a reason why faze snd players still go back to 2019.

Quick scoping came from the fact that the maps were always small and it was difficult to traditionally snipe so people got good and used snipers aggressively

This being said i think snipers should be balanced on ADS and Damage the faster the ads the more accurate you have to be and i agree with the flinch having an impact on ADS

Mostly agree with the opinions you gave; I'd personally add that Aim Assist should not kick in if quick scoping.
Maybe do it so that staying in the scope for 3-5 secs can allow it back, but I think adding that extra layer of difficulty is needed with a strong one-shot playstyle.

MW2019 allowed snipers/marksman rifles to be waaay to easy to use, and i'd personally rather deal with someone's perfect centering, rather than a strong rotational crutch.

No bullshit, everytime Ace gives a suggestion on how to improve cod, he literally gives the best or one of the best solutions that will please both sides of the party. I can't find too many times where Ace suggested something and was like "Nahh Ace". He's spot on almost all the time
