A couple of years ago I picked up the iPhone XR on contract with Freedom Mobile. Well, the contract is expiring in 3 months, which means I am almost two years in.

Will I be renewing my plan with Freedom as I look to upgrade my phone this fall? Or will I be ditching Freedom and going a different direction?

I just (Jan 2021) moved from Freedom Mobile to Bell. I had the service activated with Freedom back in January 2019 and the contract expired this year. I had nothing but problems with the service. However, in all fairness, I have to say that the area I live in and my office being mainly in the basement created the problems. I cancelled with them and took out a no commitment, bring your own phone plan with Bell. Will try that for 2 months and if I experience the same problems I did with Bell that I did with Freedom then I am moving back to Freedom or moving my office to the ground floor of my residence.

Freedom has unlimited roaming data - dunno what plans you were on, but things are definitely better now

Good for the cities but not good for rural residents or people who go out of town for awhile. If you use 50% of your usage (calls text data) inside nationwide for three consecutive months they cancelled your number, even if you prepay, and you wont get a refund. so if 50% or more of your usage is in nationwide for three straight months, even if it's only 10 min of talking each month and you prepaid for the year, they will cancel your number. So don't go camping or out of the "freedom" zone for three months, even if you paid for a year already, it will be cancelled even if you only use 1 min of talking. According to their "fair use" policy (not the fair use policy, their own made up one to use misleading terms, just like "freedomzone" and "nationwide" which mean the opposite when they use them.) if 50% of your total used talk, text, data is in a nationwide zone for three consecutive months the number gets cancelled, no refunds. So you'll be stuck in the cities of concrete prisons in little boxes stacked on boxes confined to the "freedom" zone if you have a plan with them.

Well I have Fido rn but it’s only unlimited texting/calling and it costs more then what I’ll get for freedom and freedoms offering a way better plan

Looks like my choices are between Freedom and Public Mobile. But it seems that neither offer roaming and/or holiday hold - crucial for this snowbird who spends half the year in Asia.

If you are using prepaid service with Freedom mobile, dont ever make a mistake of using automatic payments on your credit card you will be billed continuously even after you cancelled it.

Freedom needs to upgrade before I even consider I was with them years ago talking about like 8 years I recently tried there network out again like 2 years ago just to see if much changed like 8 years but sadly no nothing has changed it’s the exact same bad service considering the automatic pay that never happened even back then
Downside I’ll be long gone dead before freedom actually does anything worth wild with there service

I knew some people years ago who had wind/freedom but eventually switched. While their prices are good, I think the best value right now is Fido/Virgin/Koodo. They have decent prices because they don't offer 5g data. 4g lte is still pretty good and most people would probably be fine with it.
