The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross revives the sporty Eclipse badge – but this time, it's yet another small SUV. How does it compare to the Honda HR-V? Is it better than the ASX (aka Outlander Sport)? Tom goes to Tasmania to find out, with an early drive of the 2018 Eclipse Cross.

What's your opinion on the Eclipse Cross? Do you like that rear-end styling? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments.

Covers the design, interior, back seats, boot space and performance of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 2018 / 2018 Eclipse Cross.

I've owned several Mitsu's in my day and they all have the following in common in my view: 1. They're cheap! Very inexpensive to buy and usually better equipped than the competition. 2. Great bumper to bumper warrantees... Not that you'll need it because they're well put together. 3. The engine/drive trains are reliable to the point of being bullet proof and 4. they're inexpensive to maintain and drive. In the final analysis, if you're going to buy a car to own for a long while, dollar for dollar you can't do better than a Mitsubishi. If you want a car with "snob appeal"... This isn't it...

Absolutely love this car, it looks great. I would buy one and never considered a mitsubishi before.

Thanks for another fair car review. Watch the use of "however"! :)

that full length rear light really bothers me. The front, however, looks really handsome.

How would you compare it to Subaru XV? I’m trying to decide between the 2..

I'd be fascinated to hear your take on a Subaru XV as a comparison. My guess is the XVs handling would be better but its engine slightly worse.

Am quite intrigued with this car, but my 2002 Mitsubishi Galant still has so much life left, having owned her for 9 years now. Being that the Eclipse Cross has a turbocharged engine, does it require premium fuel, and does it have a timing belt or chain?

People dont complain about the no air vents in the back enough, so now manufacturers are getting away with doing less for still more.

Time they did an update on the poor old Lancer. Nice to see that they are doing ome work though there is a long way to go to catch up with other Marques.

The dashboard looks very similar to the lexus NX which is a complement by the way and the eclipse cross is much better than the ASX.

I like it, but prob. would not buy. Very few dealers in USA for service, Mitsu does not hold resale value.

The front is good
The interior is very cool
The back is "what the fuck?
its good to see mitsu is making turbo engines for itself again.hope they make more of these engines

nice objective review, i did not like the look of the eclipse cross at first but now it definitely grew on me. Does this vehicle require premium 95 octane gas, or it can run on 91 octane fuel?. normally turbo cars require 95 octane fuel or there is engine detonation and knocking

Before you buy one, open the hood, press your finger on the any AIR INTAKE pipe and watch it crimp like a water bottle, cheap parts, melt onto vehicle and will cost you a fortune to fix when plastic particulates sear into your engine block.... Also air conditioning condensers are terrible, expect it to fail every two years, I've had 3 already replaced...
