Build A Drawer with Dowels

Today Logan is showing you how to make sturdy drawers with dowel joinery. They get a bad rap sometimes, but dowel joints are easy to make and long-lasting when used correctly.

Milescraft needs to put out more videos for different joints. This stuff has been out for years, but you are the only one on youtube explaining how it's used.

I wish I would have seen this product a month ago when I bought a self-centering jig. The Milescraft jig solves the one issue I had when buying what I did.... I also like the idea of the little glue bottle. I will definitely have to pick up one of those.

DowelMax costs a lot more, but it is really well-made. And it goes together for different configurations with knurled knobs rather than machine screws.

Why no glue on the flat surfaces as well as the dowels??

The whole point of having grooves for the drawer bottom is to make it replaceable. You have captured the drawer bottom so it cannot be replaced. You should have cut the back of the drawer so it was short and you could slide the bottom in the three grooves and tack it in place. Then in the future when the drawer bottom is greasy and dirty and scuffed up you can easily remove it and put in a new piece.

For the time it took to set up, you could have just dovetailed it.
