How to Prune Cucumber Plants with Leaf & Vine Examples: Principles and Purpose... Not Perfection

My pruning method may not be pretty but it is effective. Remove leaves from the cucumber plant's base and prune lateral vines (as you wish) to manage shape and size. I have been doing this for over a decade and always have more cucumber than I can eat.

How amazing is it that we can plant a tiny little seed, which grows a bunch of flowers, that attract little critters to pollinate the flowers, which in turn creates hundreds if not thousands more seeds? Isn't that neat?

Very helpful demo, thanks! Some folks are able to maintain an orderly, methodical garden, but those folks are not me!! Sometimes accidents happen while pruning and I've been known to accidentally break off the main growing stem from vining plants. If I can't splint it back into place (like harming the main stem from a late-season zuke) I will let one of the production vines lower down on the broken stem get in the driver's seat.

Thank you!!! I have an indoor cucumber plant (since it's cold outside now) and I had so many damaged leaves and it was causing other parts to dry up because there was no sun. It looks beautiful now and there's so much more sun in the container!!!

One of my gardening I had 30 years ago, I had monthly magazines called Rodale I think not sure. I didn't even had garden back then that is why I got those magazines. I think I still have those books somewhere. I remember it says go out to woods and find spots where leaves have fallen down over the years and go shovel some dirt out as it is very rich top soil. My husband back then tilled the rich ground up to make the job easier to shovel them up.
