Firefighters Rescue Woman From Fourth-Floor Balcony Amid 2nd Alarm Fire In Newport Beach

02.26.2019 | 11:53 PM | NEWPORT BEACH - A woman who's apartment caught fire after an apparent explosion had to be rescued from her fourth-floor balcony, late Tuesday night.

Authorities responded to reports of a woman screaming her apartment was on fire at the Park Newport Apartments in the 4200 block of Park Newport around 11:53 PM.

Crews arriving on scene found a four-story apartment building with heavy smoke showing from fourth-floor apartment and a woman on the balcony.

Firefighters used a truck ladder to rescue the woman from her apartment while additional resources extinguished the interior fire.

The 57-year-old woman was treated on scene before being transported to OC Global Medical Center with facial laceration and smoke inhalation.

Officials are on scene investigating the cause of the fire.

To the people making fun of a 57 year old woman, no one knows the full story. She could've been the victim of an attempted murder for all we know and the perpetrator tried to set her house on fire to cover evidence.

Why do U.S. ladders not have a rescue platform or some kind of basket (is it called so?)? It's embarrassing enough to stand naked on a balcony...but to climb down all the stairs...barefoot...holy moly...
They also could've brought a blanket up to her before leading her down the rungs...
