Octatrack Digitakt Sketch #1 Great Combo

The Octatrack and Digitakt go very well together! Digitakt is the master and is playing the drums, bass and lead piano melody, while the Octatrack is playing the main piano sample and compressing the hell out of the Digitakt's audio.

The Octatrack is still difficult to wrap my head around. A new project is so daunting compared to a new project on the Digitakt or Digitone because *everything* is up to you. Things aren't curated and carefully put together for your convenience, you do that part yourself! I am getting more comfortable with it, but I think I'm gonna have to start making templates. Setting up so much stuff from scratch for every project takes a long time.

All audio is coming from the Octatrack and Digitakt, with a preamp plugin called Phoenix and a multiband expander called Maximus added in post. The whole track was recorded in one take.

Hi ivar im new to all this and also have the DT and OT. Going to patreon. One question where did you get the piano samples as very good quality. Im still struggling on the dt to get a beat which isnt techno/edm

Would I be able to request a workflow video of DT and OT? On the surface I see that you’ve got a few (of what looks like) free tracks on OT, so it’s nice to see what the DT is bringing to the table. Also, are your performances improvised or rehearsed?

Revisiting this vid as I've been finally getting the hang of using these two powerhouses together. I wanted to ask: it looks like you have a Flex Track on T6 that starts recording at the beginning of each measure. Is this like an EZBOT setup where you have it set to sample one of the other tracks, so you can fade over to it and mangle it?

Thanks for the info ivar. So i can get this straight, did you record the piano part in FL midi and transfer it to Dt or is the Dt hooked up to the computer. This is much more satisfying as at the moment all i am doing is piecing samples together. I need a teacher!

Great track! I've been stranded away from home for the last 4 months and I only brought the OT with me, and I'm loving it. I like it more than the DT, but they are really very different machines. Lately I start a new project for each new track, and I start with a pattern with a chord progression (that I build from samples of old TV and VHS stuff I found in youtube, or from a friend that sends me chord progressions he records with his guitar), and then I add some drums, bass and some other samples of human voices or percussion, etc. Then I copy the pattern and start making changes, like different sections of the song. And then I add some scenes for transitions, and again continue copying the patterns and making changes. I've been using separate projects for recording and preparing samples; for example, I have a project that plays chords and scales through MIDI and records from the external inputs, I used it while I was still at home with the Korg Prologue to build sample chains with chords and scales.

If you know deeply the potencial of one machine (say the DT) why would you choose to add another machine for creating your tracks? Do you think you could create this exact song on DT only, or only on OT, or the combo brings extra potential?
