The titanic sank because the iceberg scraped the side into 5 compartments, the titanic can close the compartments, but she can only hold 4 compartments that are flooded

Actually when the Titanic hit the iceberg it opened up the first five compartments and parsley opened the 6th into a coal bunker.

In the watertight compartments we're originally the go up to the very upper decks of Titanic but feeling that passengers would not like that idea because it would be harder to walk around the ship they decided to lower the bulkheads which the iceberg have an open up six compartments can I love the water to spill over the water tight bulkheads which led to a dreadful phenomenon where water pours down on you from above.

And it was not a bad design idea at the time because at the time a sideswipe of an iceberg was not foreseen it was far more damage did any designer at the time could ever imagine.

And the coal bunker from which the water was backing up into was not designed do it stands search pressure and gave way which also accelerated Titanic sinking.

It's only nowadays that we would see that bulkheads as a design flaw but for their time most ships did not cite swipe icebergs most of them were in head-on collisions at least collisions that would only damage one or two compartments at most but understand Titanic could have survived four compartments flooding it would have been down by the bow but it still would have survived.

The titanic was built like that the bulkheads only reached 10 feet above the waterline (fun fact: the titanic had a fire during construction causing a weakpoint which coincedently was where it hit the iceberg)
