I lost 3 of my 4 grandparents by the age of 6. My father was an alcoholic and my mother dealt with emotional problems. We were evicted from our home. I’ve gone to bed hungry. We are poor. At age 6, I stopped my father from killing his brother. I was sexually molested by a family friend. I’m not whining. I went on to build a wonderful life and family. I have seen it done before. A spouse comes in and taps into the other’s insecurities and jealousy and exploits it to their benefit and alienates the other from their family. It is not unusual in a family to talk about skin color. I don't know about White families, but it is always talked about in Black families. How light or how dark a child is going to be is not uncommon.
