Hey Lei, Vietnamese people normally addressed by first name. In this case, called him Trong, it's ambiguous to called him Nguyen because there are a least 50 millions of Vietnamese with the last name Nguyen

So, I know you didn't say the *governments* were similar exactly... but, I don't think it's fair to conflate China and Vietnam. They are both 1-party systems, yes, but one of them allows much more individual freedom than the other, and also practices a separation of powers and at least some measure of representative government (the legislature is elected and no opposition parties are allowed, but you don't have to be a member of the party in order to hold office and that's become more and more common) and they've never annexed or been aggressive to anyone and shown a markedly different capacity for adaptation, reform and self-criticism than their counterparts in Beijing. There's a reason we don't know how to properly say the names of Vietnamese leaders-- because they've done a good job making sure they never had a Stalin or Mao-type situation there, and that is to be commended. During the time when the Chinese party was cracking skulls in the streets, the VCP was liberalizing and being totally pragmatic about economic reform in a way that suggests to me they were putting the wellbeing of their people ahead of their pride or ideology or nationalistic and revaunchist feelings.
