As an appreciator of European swords, I can say with confidence, that a bit of give in your sword is not a problem. It's when it stays that way, that it becomes problematic.

Part of the key to a strong and long-lasting sword, is having the core of the blade contain a slightly softer steel that can flex A BIT to absorb impacts. If the whole sword is soft you get Example A (which was actually the main issue with bronze swords and the like before iron took over), but if it’s entirely hard and can’t bend it’s more likely to chip and fracture when under strain.

different blend of metals, different forging methods, thicker/more rigid blade design, theres a number of explanations as to why the first blade bent and the 2nd one didnt. european double-edged blades are designed to be able to flex while japanese single-edge blades such as the katana are more rigid but have a natural curve to the blade akin to a sabre, which helps the blade edge to auto-correct if you mess up your strike and only make a glancing blow.
