to me, this song changes meaning with the added chorus.

First Rate Town sounds like a nostalgic return to your old stomping grounds and reliving the memories you treasured about it, but Second Rate Town sounds like a yearning to escape from a place that's holding you back and moving on to find a better place.

Oh this hits my heart so much harder acoustic! I always felt a connection to this song, i was born in the main city of my state, it's by all means a "first rate town", there are opportunities, a lot of things to do and literal millions of people and i'll forever be greatfull to my grandparents for sacrificing so much to get to live here and raise their family in a safer place.
Still i feel a sort of existential dread knowing i will probably never leave this place. I dont hate my hometown but it's cold, claustrophobic and there is such a tragic look in everyone's eyes since big natural disasters started affecting us many times in the last years. This city doesnt feel alive anymore, it's painfully ironic that our name has "joy" in it, i dont think anyone wants to stay but it's not like we have much choice in leaving and abandoning everything that was built here.
I wish i could admire a clear sky someday i always loved everything about stars.
