#280. Absolute Black OVAL CHAINRING - REVIEW

There are just as many arguments against oval chainrings as there are for them. This suggests that they are suited to some riding styles and not others, despite what the science says. It's something I've always been curious about so I've bitten the bullet.

Time to scratch the itch!

Enjoy.

Bike used:
Planet X Tempest v3
SRAM Force 1x11
Absolute Black 40t Oval Direct-mount Chainring
Fulcrum Racing Sport 700 Disc wheels
Panaracer GravelKing SK 38mm tyres

Looks class, you get used to it very quickly .
I’m running 52/38 on a titanium road bike . Initially felt I was bouncing a bit but don’t notice if now .
Having said that I’m not going any faster or spinning any more

Regarding tyres the wtb resolutes are dam good

Very enjoyable video mate. You did well staying upright with those tyres👍I have the same ones and they definitely do no like gloop. Smart move not riding the unknown path🙂

Cheers mate👍

They are great chainrings regardless of whether or not you think they help make you faster, they are definitely lighter, quieter and wear better than SRAMs equivalents.

I'm loving your videos where you ride the Tempest!
This AB Oval chainring seems to be a worthy upgrade; an upgrade that might help up grades :-)

The Tempest Ti is a lovely bike, I'm sorely tempted by the Shimano Ultegra version. The Medium seems close to what I have in Stack & Reach, even though I'm 5'7" with about 31" inseam length. May I ask how tall are you & what would be your inseam length please?

I understand that when buying the Force 1 version of the bike; you opted for upgrading the wheels to the 700 (it is listed with the Fulcrum 900 as default). Alloy handlebars are offered as alternatives to the default handlebar, I'm surprised Planet X don't offer a carbon bar as an alternative. As it is if one wants carbon bars (for shock/vibration absorption), one has to buy them separately & install everything himself.

Keep 'em coming Marcus, more rides & long term reviews of the Tempest please!

Congrats & gratitude for sharing.
